These beautiful paintings are by Jeanne Gaigher, an emerging artist from Cape Town. I struggled to pick which paintings to feature and worried about the flow of this post because in this body of work it feels like the artist is having two separate conversations. Gaigher’s close-ups are aggressively intimate while the group scenes are full of tension and distance.
“Jeanne is able to beautifully capture fleeting moments within other cultures. Greatly influenced by her travels in the East and America, a new language of colour and stroke is created from a foreign aesthetic and portrayed and layered on canvas.” – Amy Ellenbogen, curator at SMITH.
