Maya Stefania: Repetition

Thursday, October 22, 2015 · 1 Comment

Maya Stefania is an oil painter based in Aarhus, Denmark who spent five years in San Francisco. Repetition is her series of partially-abstracted double portraits with really wonderful brush work. Stefania quotes Danish philosopher Kierkegaard: “What is repeated has been, or else it could not be repeated, but the fact that it has been turns the repetition into something new.”  There’s a great interview with her about her work and her journey as an artist with Betty Wood.

We are impressed. Maya Stefania’s oil paintings are very nostalgic and mystery in a good way.
